This guide covers the replacement of both the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors since they are both identical.

Owners of other 3rd generation 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006 Altima sedans should find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

In the above row of photos you can see the location of the camshaft sensor on the device driver's side of the engine and the crankshaft position detector is fallen on the back side of meat of the engine (foremost seen from under the car &A; removed from in a higher place).

To supplant either sensor you will need a 10mm metric bolt and a ratchet wrench. Don't forget the natural rubber o-ring. You'ray done!

Instantly for our saga. On a vacation weekend we discovered that the 2.5L inline 4 cylinder locomotive in the L31 generation 2002 Nissan Altima was leaking oil.

Upon inspection of the motor, my blood brother pinpointed the source of the oil leak to be the crankshaft put up detector.

The reason that the engine was leaking oil was that a passing auto mechanic neglected to put in an o-round on to the detector during the car's 60,000 mile service.

When replacing either sensor, be sure to inspect the rubber o-ring and verify that it is really happening the detector!

The mechanic also must have separate the wire rule connector with a screwdriver because it was practically decreasing apart.

Few congruous replacement camshaft position sensors with their part numbers include the following: OEM 96239, Standard Motor Products PC464, Nissan 23731-6N21A, Dorman 530-010 and Delphi SS10818.

Some replacement crankshaft emplacement sensors with their part numbers are as follows: Nissan 23731-6N21A, Wells SU6364, Classical Motor Products PC464T, Hitachi W0133-1796511-HIT and Delphi SS10816.

Besides destroying the cable connector & forgetting the o-ring, the thoughtless "automotive repair technician" also poor a retaining tab on the air box seat cover, crushed the air filter with his human elbow, and unheeded to replace a vacuum hose's clamp. Connector From Junkyard
We necessary to get this machine running today and the only option was to visit a wrecked car parts recycling center, a.k.a. a junkyard.

Luckily the junkyard had a totaled 2006 Nissan Altima with the engine wiring unmoving intact.

After we contract off the camshaft position sensor wire harness connector, all we had to do was splice it up to the '02 Altima with butt wire connectors.

If you wear't induce a junkyard in your area, I recommend buying the OEM Nissan 23731-6N21A camshaft sensor and likewise the Nissan 23731-6N21A crankshaft sensor.

For the superior electrical connection, I recommend using crimp connectors.

If necessary, you could besides just wind the wires together, wrap them in electric tape and use line ties to batten down the tape.
